Can wearing a bra lead to breast cancer? What could a seemingly harmless piece of clothing have in common with the disease? Medical anthropologist Sydney Ross Singer and his assistant Soma Grismaijer were not influenced by their own cultural environment, which considers the bra a fashion icon, and conducted a groundbreaking study revealing the connections between wearing a bra and breast cancer. They examined how the bra compresses breast tissue and reduces lymphatic flow, and based on this fact, formulated their theory. To verify it in practice, they conducted the "Study on the Impact of Bras on the Development of Breast Cancer." Their goal was to explore the past, attitudes, opinions, and behaviors of healthy women and women suffering from breast cancer in five major cities in the United States. Between 1991 and 1993, they spoke with over 4,700 women. The results of the study exceeded all their expectations and are detailed in this book. Breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death among women.
