Freedom is a beautiful thing, but it can also be quite a challenge at times. Location manager Jiří Derer faces risks of this kind bravely and with composure. His craft may appear to an outside observer as freedom itself, but he knows best how much real liberty one can actually afford while practicing it. Jiří Štědroň wrote his piece in the first person, so it may seem that he speaks from personal experience, that he might have been a location manager at some point. However, his close ones know that he has not. His whole life he has sung, played, written songs and books, briefly ventured into glassmaking, and later into advertising, even serving as the commercial director of an artistic agency, but whenever he had anything to do with film, he was always in front of the camera. The hustle and bustle of professions on the opposite side, however, as this book proves, he has closely observed. What he hasn't learned, he can probably invent quite convincingly. According to the principle, if it's not true, at least let it be entertaining.
