Description
The northern regions of Bohemia have always been an important defensive bulwark of our lands. The high mountains and dense forests prevented the entry of enemies, and only in a few places did trade and land routes pass through, guarded by a system of smaller and larger castles and fortresses, many of which are now just insignificant ruins. Several times, hostile armies penetrated through here, from the early Middle Ages to quite recent history. In addition, there were several significant large cities here that experienced more than one siege, such as during the Hussite Wars or the Thirty Years' War. Jindřich Brož's book deals with the battles in this territory and brings the reader closer to events long past. The book is supplemented with maps, GPS coordinates, and especially a number of photographs in the text in a color appendix.
