Description
The book focuses on the renovation of the interior of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Jedovnice near Brno. It particularly addresses Jan Koblas's involvement in the modernization of the presbytery (altar space) of the church. The main part of the adjustment of the altar space took place in the first half of the 1960s, and alongside Koblas, other artists who are now considered leading visual artists of their time participated: Mikuláš Medek, Karel Nepraš, and Josef Istler. However, Koblas's contribution is by far the most extensive. Despite the significant increase in modern expression in sacred spaces today, the renovation of the presbytery in Jedovnice is among the most valuable. It is exceptional not only in its nature but also specific to the time and place of its creation. It stands out in the context of both Czech and European art, as well as in the context of Koblas's work. In terms of content and the formal elements used, the Jedovnice presbytery is one of the most remarkable examples of ars sacra in Europe. The book is accompanied by photographs.
