Description
The book addresses both historical and current aspects of the ideal of human unity and the search for a global political organization. It systematically presents religious stimuli related to the theme of international order and the concept of a so-called world political authority, particularly from the perspective of Catholic-oriented social thought and the so-called social teaching of the Church. Overall, the topic is also placed in the context of paradigms in the field of international relations theory and various concepts of so-called global governance. The book critically grapples with a certain ambivalence of global power in political theory, Catholic social thought, other Christian traditions, and other major world religions. It finds a certain solution in resigning from the demand for a world state, a strongly conceived global governance, and an overly expansive understanding of the concept of human rights. This can simultaneously be seen as a good starting point for interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue in the context of globalization.
