Kosmické listy - Humoristický román – Klíma Jan (2020)

The hero of the book is theoretical physicist Aleš Král, who, worn out by his scientific career, arrives at the editorial office of the monthly magazine Kosmické listy to apply for the position of head of the literary supplement. For a year, he publishes his own sci-fi stories set in the not-too-distant future of 2034 in the magazine. The book presents a unique combination of a realistic humorous novel depicting the life of the Kosmické listy editorial team and short sci-fi stories, whose heroes, along with their problems, transition from one story to another, creating a second narrative layer in the book. The author creatively utilizes his knowledge of theoretical physics and familiarity with the issues brought by advanced information technologies. However, he does not depict - as is often the case in the sci-fi genre - a catastrophic fate for humanity. The visions of the near future are inspired by the everyday events of the main character, who, with detachment and humor, introduces the reader to futuristic devices such as a dream machine, a generator of embarrassing situations, or good moods. As we know from our present, even the most perfect devices usually do not behave as their creators and users expected.
