Description
The book offers a brief overview of game theory, a new scientific field that has already achieved a number of important results in evolutionary biology and economics and is beginning to bring revolutionary discoveries in many other fields, such as psychology and political science. Ken Binmore, a mathematician and expert in game theory, presents his field in a way that captivates readers and literally draws them into the narrative. And although his explanation contains only a minimal amount of mathematical concepts, it does not remain superficial; on the contrary, it shows where game theory can be successfully applied: from negotiations in meetings and ethical decision-making to finding successful strategies in card games and calculating the sex ratio among individuals in a bee community. The book also includes a number of mini-portraits of fascinating and occasionally eccentric founders of this field – including John Nash, the main character of the famous film A Beautiful Mind.
