Description
This textbook captures the most basic issues and pitfalls that a beginner pianist will encounter. It offers an alternative to classical piano teaching, whether through the selection of repertoire (favoring songs over classical pieces) or simple playing techniques (basic bass and melody). It contains a number of well-known Czech, Moravian, and Slovak songs with simple accompaniment. Chord symbols next to the songs help with orientation and understanding the harmonic structure of the songs. The introductory part is based on playing songs within a five-note range, later adding the left hand with accompaniment in the bass clef. The school does not overwhelm the student with excessive amounts of music theory information that they will not use in the beginning. At the end, the textbook is supplemented with chapters on how to transpose and how to accompany favorite songs from songbooks.
