Eczema and dermatitis are among the most common skin diseases in the office of a dermatologist, as well as in that of a general practitioner for adults and children. Among the most well-known, but also the most therapeutically challenging, are atopic and dyshidrotic eczema and seborrheic dermatitis. Not only from the perspective of occupational skin diseases but also contact allergic eczema and irritant dermatitis.
Since the previous – thoroughly analyzed – edition of this book, there have been significant changes in both immunopathogenesis and advancements in local and especially systemic therapy. Therefore, all chapters in the fourth edition have been updated, supplemented, and expanded. A hot topic is the great attention given to atopic eczema and the newly included hand eczema.
Systematic basic diagnostic and differential diagnostic algorithms for eczema and dermatitis are presented. The principles of comprehensive treatment and prevention are discussed, with more detailed elaboration on external treatment regimens using emollients, topical corticosteroids, and immunomodulators. It also includes a compendium of verified prescriptions for magistral prescriptions.
