Description
Migraine is a condition with a significant impact on the lives of patients and society, globally ranking first among the causes of disability and reduced work capacity in people under 50 years of age. Although the pathophysiology of this condition is not fully understood, some neurobiological mechanisms are well known and have already found therapeutic use, both in acute and preventive treatment. Acute treatment focuses on reducing the intensity of symptoms and shortening the duration of attacks, while the goal of preventive treatment is to reduce the risk of attack development, thereby also reducing the number of migraine days in a month. Preventive treatment remains a constant challenge for physicians – in Europe, only about one in ten patients who need it actually receive preventive treatment. Following the great success of the first edition of this book, Dr. Pavel Řehulka, Ph.D., has prepared a second, updated, and supplemented edition, which again reflects the rapid development of migraine pharmacotherapy.
