Epileptologie – group of authors (2024)

The team at the Brno Center for Epilepsy has taken on a challenging, ambitious task – to provide Czech and Slovak readers with a significantly missing, comprehensive overview of current knowledge on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, phenomenology, diagnosis, and therapy of epilepsy, written in Czech. In short, a thorough textbook of a long-established neurological subspecialty – epileptology. Of course, one cannot overlook the social contexts, gender, or generally human aspects and comorbidities of this condition, which often play a greater role in the quality of life for patients with epilepsy than the seizures themselves. The primary aim of the authors was to compile a clear text that serves as a practical guide for doctors in caring for the entire spectrum of patients with seizure disorders (from individuals experiencing their first epileptic seizure to patients with less manageable epilepsy). Starting with the differential diagnosis of epilepsies and acute symptomatic seizures or non-epileptic seizures, and concluding with practical recommendations on how to handle antiepileptic medications and other therapeutic approaches.
