Melanoma is the most serious skin malignancy, and in the Czech Republic, it is the seventh most common malignant tumor overall, with its incidence continuing to rise. In the 1990s, the incidence in the Czech Republic exceeded 1,000 cases per year, and today these figures are more than double. Approximately 350-400 patients die from melanoma each year. The previously hopeless situation for patients with advanced disease has begun to improve in the last 10 years, particularly due to the advent of targeted and biological therapies, including immunotherapy. The second edition of the book, prepared by a team led by Professor Petr Arenberger, is based on the current recommended procedures (updated for 2024) and contains precise recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of this malignancy. The book is primarily intended for oncologists and dermatologists, but will also be useful for all medical professions that may be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma.
