The textbook of internal medicine is a key publication in every generation for the education of young doctors. Given the vast scope of the field, recent textbooks either suffer from excessive length or oversimplification, complicating the composition of specialization exams in internal medicine and preventing subsequent use for one's own outpatient or clinical practice. For practical reasons, we have divided the new textbook Internal Medicine into two separate volumes. The second volume covers the fields of nephrology, diabetology and endocrinology, gastroenterology, hepatology, rheumatology, allergology and clinical immunology, clinical and radiation oncology, infectious medicine, clinical nutrition and intensive metabolic care, medical genetics, clinical biochemistry, clinical osteology, geriatrics, and palliative medicine. The textbook is designed to be very practical and particularly reader-friendly; the text is rich in information yet concise. Theoretical information (pathophysiology) is kept to a minimum, with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment, including issues related to acute situations. The book is richly illustrated, as the authors followed the principle that one good illustration is worth dozens of pages of text.
