The issue of congenital developmental defects is one of the significant topics in gynecology and obstetrics, not only due to their relatively high incidence (approximately 400 newborns with diagnosed congenital developmental defects per 10,000 live births) but especially due to the consequences for the affected individual and their family. The book is designed as a practical guide, placing great emphasis on illustrations/photo documentation as well as clarity, practicality, and brevity of basic information about the most common congenital developmental defects and perinatal diseases of newborns. Structured chapters summarize current knowledge about the causes, diagnosis, delivery methods, treatment, and prognosis of individual diseases. Associations with other defects, recommended examination and subsequent treatment procedures, and assessments of disability risks are described. The book is primarily intended for gynecologists so they can provide comprehensive information and be partners in discussions with their patients regarding prenatally detected fetal impairments. However, it can certainly also serve as a good guide for medical students, novice pediatricians, or neonatologists.
