Chirurgie u seniorů a interní příprava k operaci – group of authors (2022)

Statistical data indicates that up to 50% of seniors have needed or will need surgical procedures, mostly of moderate or greater complexity. Adequate preoperative preparation and subsequent gentle surgical treatment currently represent a necessary prerequisite for a successful treatment process. The aim of this unique monograph is to combine the latest findings in the preoperative preparation of seniors from an internal perspective, assess their health risks, so that the subsequent anesthesiological-resuscitation and, above all, surgical procedures yield the best results. In the first, internal section, the authors discuss the evaluation of biological and chronological age criteria, issues of sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and age-related immunological deviations. In the anamnesis analysis and physical examination, they outline age-related changes and clarify the concept of geriatric frailty. The subsequent section details the organ-related risks of surgical procedures from the perspective of the main organ systems: cardiovascular and vascular, pulmonary diseases, diabetes mellitus and its treatment in seniors, metabolic syndrome, renal risk, gastroenterological complications, neurological diseases, and the prevention of thromboembolic disease.
