Description
Pediatric urology has a long-standing tradition in our country as a subspecialty of urology and pediatric surgery. Thanks to modern diagnostic methods, especially ultrasound, many congenital defects of the kidneys, urinary tract, and genitals can be detected even in the prenatal period, allowing for monitoring of these pathologies after birth and timely recommendations for treatment. In addition to morphological anomalies, many children suffer from functional problems that significantly reduce their quality of life, and more severe issues can jeopardize an individual's health for a lifetime. New pathologies, inflammations, urinary stones, and even cancerous diseases can also arise during childhood. Diagnostic and treatment procedures must be as gentle as possible for the developing child's organism and for quality of life in adolescence and adulthood. The correct selection of these procedures, along with less invasive methods, characterizes modern pediatric urology, as does the emphasis on lifelong care for urological diseases. The publication of the current monograph involved prominent pediatric urologists and experts from various medical fields from the Czech Republic and abroad.
