Case-based textbooks have become a popular and important form of professional education in various fields over the past few decades. Dermatovenereology is a unique field in terms of case studies – the diagnosis is primarily derived from what we see and secondarily based on laboratory and other examinations. It is crucial to have the differential diagnosis correctly established from the beginning. And this is precisely what dermatovenereological case studies provide – in the words of the main author: "we train our eyes with photos and our brains with accompanying text."
