5) Esophageal carcinoma is among the most serious malignancies of today; it is a treatable disease, but rarely fully curable. Care for patients with esophageal carcinoma requires interdisciplinary cooperation among gastroenterologists, oncologists, surgeons, and other specialists. A collective of authors, led by Assoc. Prof. MUDr. Radek Vrba, Ph.D., has prepared a book publication dedicated to the issue of esophageal malignancies in all its breadth – from anatomy, epidemiology, and diagnostic methods to treatment procedures, both conservative and surgical. Naturally, there are chapters concerning the preparation of patients for these extensive surgical procedures and the principles of anesthesia management, as well as postoperative care and palliative issues.
