Description
Sarcomas represent a group of rare malignant mesenchymal tumors. They can occur at any age and in any location. A current global trend is the concentration of patients with this diagnosis into specialized high-volume centers. However, it is all the more important to have a thorough understanding of sarcoma issues within the broader oncology and surgical community. The most common types include trunk sarcomas, abdominal and pelvic sarcomas, retroperitoneal sarcomas, limb sarcomas, visceral sarcomas, and GIST. The issue of soft tissue tumors is broader and includes other extremely rare diseases, such as desmoid/aggressive fibromatosis, pseud sarcoma protuberans, solitary fibrous tumor, pseud sarcomatoid tumors, and others. The prognosis for many sarcomas is much better than is commonly believed among doctors, but successful treatment requires a perfect understanding of the treatment procedures for each type of sarcoma. Many patients require multidisciplinary collaboration among various surgical and non-surgical fields to ensure optimal diagnosis and therapy. This book presents the latest insights into the issues surrounding these serious diseases.
