The specifics of pediatric neurosurgery are primarily determined by the maturity of the patients' nervous systems. A neurosurgeon trained solely in pediatric neurosurgery will find it difficult to operate on a herniated disc or an aneurysm. An adult neurosurgeon does not see premature fusion of sutures or myeloceles. Both have their specifics as well as completely shared areas (for example, the surgery of a fourth ventricle tumor is the same in adults and children). The analysis of patients, that is, individual case studies, inevitably leads to a general reflection on the most important diseases in pediatric neurosurgery.
