Description
Proximal femur fractures are among the significant medical and social problems due to their high incidence and serious consequences, even in the most advanced healthcare systems. Today's traumatology has very advanced techniques that allow for stable osteosynthesis or arthroplasty even into advanced age; however, the outcome of treatment depends – as is well known – not only on the surgeon's skill and knowledge of all modern techniques and skills but equally on the level of the entire therapeutic team, in which the anesthesiologist, internists, and physiotherapists also play key roles alongside the surgeon. The outcome is determined equally by surgery as well as by the prevention of thrombosis and embolism. Anesthesiological-resuscitative care is also of crucial importance in the comprehensive treatment of proximal femur fractures, considering the higher average age of patients and the fact that proximal femur fractures are often part of polytraumas.
