Description
Entrepreneurs and managers holding the reins of industrial enterprises played a significant role in shaping the economic, social, and cultural environment of interwar Czechoslovakia, and it is to them that the publication "Beer, Weapons, and Tvarůžky" is dedicated. It tells the life stories of nearly two dozen personalities from the first republic's corporate management, expressing a wide, even inexhaustible diversity of entrepreneurial activities in Czechoslovakia. Not all were successful, but most of those discussed in the publication achieved remarkable results, thanks in part to their unprecedented personal commitment, ingenuity, and tenacity, establishing their firms in the broader European and even global market. The origin and social background of the selected personalities, primarily their entrepreneurial careers—successes and failures in the context of changing business strategies—and, last but not least, the developmental "overflow" into significantly different conditions of a managed economy during the Nazi occupation and after the war into the emerging era of socialism, are evidence not only of dynamism but, above all, the multifaceted nature of the business environment.
