Description
Lubomír Vejražka's new book continues the themes explored in two previous titles, which also dealt with often overlooked topics related to communist repression and its inadequate reflection in contemporary society. In 2012, he published the book Unhealed Wounds of the Nation, in which he described the internal dramas of the counterparts of political prisoners and the tragic experiences of divided families. In 2018, he published a second book titled Scars Remain – The Legacy of Evil Still Alive, which primarily focused on the experiences of the descendants of political prisoners who grew up without one or even both parents. The author touches on the inner worlds of the witnesses with great understanding and describes their ostracization, which they experienced for decades and which, in the case of the descendants of political prisoners, largely continued even after 1989. The books stand in stark contrast to the efforts of part of society to paint the communist regime in a rosy light and to label its repressive nature as marginal. The peak of these tendencies, which provoke heated discussions in society, was the recent statement by Michal Pullmann, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague.
