Both Czech and foreign audiences are very familiar with the repertoire of Karel Kryl, his stances against the totalitarian regime, and his views on the post-November reforms. The book 'Confession' reveals the famous songwriter in a completely new light, offering a glimpse into the family's background. For the first time in print, we learn about the childhood of the legend named Kryl, family customs and struggles, siblings and their shared folkloric period, first loves, and the first guitar on which perhaps Kryl's most famous song 'Brother, Close the Gate' was later recorded. It explores what troubled Karel deep in his soul, what he dreamed of, and where he wanted to be buried. Radka Slížová studied journalism, dedicating her thesis to a portrait of Miroslav Kovářík, a leading Czech reciter. Her domain is artistic journalism, and she has written dozens of interviews with actors from Prague's stages. In addition to the book about Karel Kryl's family background, her work 'Traces, or When Legends Speak' chronicles the cultural and social life of Litvínov in the 1960s.
