The unfortunate legacy of the past can also include materials that represent an ecological burden. Chemical and biological weapons, as well as explosive materials, may be hidden here. The author embarks on a quest for the remnants of World War II, which he has been investigating for the past 17 years. He seeks to clarify some historical facts concerning not only the Štěchovice locality but also the Benešov and Sedlčany regions during this dramatic period. The area between the Vltava and Sázava rivers, the Čerčany-Olbramovice-Sedlčany railway, and the Sedlčany-Zrůbek road served as a training ground for SS units from 1942 to 1945. This training area housed several concentration camps, an airport, and underground production facilities where thousands of prisoners perished. Propaganda footage of Nazi troops conquering eastern territories was filmed in special studios here. The book is a cross-section of experiences in searching for this provocative history and is also one of the first harbingers sent out before the opening of the first Waffen SS hideouts.
