The author himself foreshadows in the introduction: This is more of a political science study, in which I did not aim to write a classic biography of Edvard Beneš, as someone might expect, but to conduct a deeper probe into that period of our and European development in the 20th century, which was intertwined with tumultuous events that influenced the further shaping of European and world civilization, which he also experienced very intensely. A period of which this Czechoslovak statesman and diplomat was an integral part and which had a reciprocal and necessary influence on him. Against the dramatic backdrop of history, the reader vividly and plastically sees the figure of our second democratic president with his good qualities and human flaws, merits, and tragic mistakes. The author, together with Beneš, traverses the pivotal periods of our history - the establishment of an independent state, the Gajda affair, the Munich crisis, the assassination of Heydrich, the post-war arrangement of Czechoslovakia along with the February crisis, and seeks to uncover all the connections in their complexity.
