Description
Helping oneself and others is primarily a state of mind and a precise understanding of the difference between destructive and beneficial actions." This could be the motto of this book, which is a revised edition of the reflections of a significant pre-war Orientalist on the legacy of two exceptional spiritual figures in human history. His synthesizing perspective focuses on the points of contact between Christianity and Buddhism, finding a number of provocatively common traits, whether from the perspective of moral purity, the immortality of the soul, experience, or knowledge. However, he pays special attention to the question of karma, a pivotal concept in Buddhist teaching that resonates significantly in Christian scriptures.
