Doktore, to bude bolet! – Taylor Patrick (2021)

This Czech-language novel follows the devoted doctor O'Reilly, who has a heart of gold and, despite the passing years and occasional grumbling, remains faithfully by his patients' side through times of hardship and joy. Together with his colleagues, he continues to run a medical practice in the Irish town of Ballybucklebo. The doctors' lives are shaped not only by the ailments of local residents, but also by their other troubles and a succession of comic situations. At the same time, events affecting the fate of all Northern Ireland unfold around them, including street riots connected with the religious division of society and differing Irish views of the future. Against this background, the doctors and their loved ones deal with personal problems, including a colleague's wife's complicated pregnancy, the approaching retirement of one of them and the question of whether life in Northern Ireland still has anything good to offer. The outside world also makes its presence felt: the daughter of Doctor O'Reilly's wife's former love arrives in town, the first people land on the Moon and one of O'Reilly's friends prepares to set off on a voyage around the world. The town itself remains peaceful for now, but no one can be sure what the coming weeks and months will bring.
