We pay tribute to A. C. Doyle by releasing a four-part series of his well-known and newly translated prose. After three volumes of non-Holmes short stories (Mysteries and Secrets and Adventures at Sea and on Land, Secrets from Clinics and Laboratories), the fourth and final volume is now being published. This one is dedicated to the most famous detective of all time, Sherlock Holmes. The Hound of the Baskervilles, undoubtedly the most famous work of A. C. Doyle, was published in installments in the Strand magazine from 1901 to 1902. By that time, the author had come to loathe his literary character, who overshadowed everything else he created in life. He was a very prolific writer: he wrote more than three hundred works of fiction (including 24 novels) and over 1200 other prose works, including the monumental six-volume history of World War I. Yet, when this writer is mentioned, everyone immediately thinks of the eccentric detective from Baker Street! Although Doyle felt this was an injustice, his stories about Holmes, these fairy tales for adults, remain quite popular even today.
