Description
Let us be enchanted by the narrative mastery of Arthur Conan Doyle, whose work radiates a thirst for curiosity, a kindled imagination, and an unquenchable desire for a better world, which undoubtedly places him in the twenty-first century. This second volume includes Doyle's prose with adventurous themes, presented in a modern and sparkling Czech translation, with some of these works being published in Czech for the very first time. Doyle had a keen interest in mysterious events and phenomena, responding even to the mysterious disappearance of the American ship Marie Celeste, which was found abandoned in 1872 near the Azores under circumstances that are still only speculated about today. Doyle attempted to explain this in the short story 'The Captain of the 'Polestar'. Another extraordinary creative endeavor is 'The Prisoner's Defense', which serves as a counterpart to the famous Holmes story 'His Last Bow', in which Sherlock Holmes takes on the role of a false spy in the service of his country. The third volume, which will be released a few months later, will be titled 'Doctors and Other Scientists'. We will conclude the four-part Doyle series with a new translation of the famous 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', accompanied by impressive period illustrations.
