Description
Several years earlier, young Barry Laverty begins his compulsory year of training at Belfast’s Royal Hospital. Barry and his best friend Jack spend endless days and nights in the emergency department and other wards, while also experiencing patients’ gratitude and new romances. Barry also receives a powerful lesson in life when an unexpected illness lets him experience the hospital from the helpless perspective of a patient. Six years later, Barry and his wife Sue are troubled by their continuing inability to conceive their longed-for child, although they have tried everything, including demanding laparoscopic surgery. Will modern radiotherapy help Barry’s patient Anne, or must she come to terms with the inevitable? Doctor O’Reilly and his friends have devised a place where everyone can meet, regardless of religious beliefs or political preferences, but a mysterious, unpleasant colonel stands in the way and must eventually surrender. Donal Donnelly has recently suffered a disaster when his house burned down, but he is back on his feet. Not only has the house been rebuilt, even better than before, but Donal also experiences pleasant surprises that show how irreplaceable good friends are. Things are happening in Ballybucklebo once again.
