Description
This Czech-language novel is set in the fashionable English spa town of Bath, where, in Jane Austen’s time, young women were introduced into society so that they could acquire polish and, under their mothers’ supervision, find a desirable match. Its heroine, Catherine, is the sincere, guileless and cheerful daughter of a country clergyman who, in this unfamiliar setting, encounters more than a few dangers alongside its welcome pleasures. Although her head is filled with the frightening Gothic novels popular among girls at the time, and she often sees a romantic drama even in entirely ordinary events, her sound judgment eventually shows her the right path, and everything ends happily for the charming Catherine.
