In all his previous books, Thilo Sarrazin dealt with the difficulties that arise for German society from cohabitation with the Muslim minority. In his latest work, he even made Islam the main theme and approached it with his usual analytical thoroughness. In the first chapter, he presents an image of this religion as it appears to an informed reader of the Quran, and in the second, he offers a well-supported historical, demographic, and economic excursion into the contemporary Islamic world. However, the core of his book lies in a thorough analysis of the social and cultural conditions prevailing in these societies, which are – and this is the author's central message – fundamentally predetermined by the Quran, or rather its literal interpretation, to which the vast majority of representatives of the Islamic faith resort. According to Sarrazin, the Quran is the fundamental source of the Muslim mentality, hostile to Western values and incompatible with Euro-Atlantic political democracy, which has consistently separated secular power from the sphere of religion.
