Description
Greek is a separate language branch in terms of developmental kinship. However, it shares some common features with other Balkan languages (Albanian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Romanian). For example, the disappearance of the infinitive and the analytical formation of the future tense using the particle 'tha' – ?? (derived from the word 'I want' – ????), etc. The vocabulary of modern Greek (i.e., Neo-Greek) remains very stable despite all the influences from the surrounding world, so a person familiar with ancient Greek can easily learn Neo-Greek. And anyone who puts in at least a little effort can learn it, as it is not a complicated language. Greek, Byzantine, and modern Greek culture are then a rich source for reading and study. Moreover, Greeks are generally inclined to welcome anyone who shows interest in their language, of which they are rightly proud.
