This is due to the specific relationship between Slovak and Czech, languages that are closely related, with a shared cultural tradition and more than seventy years of coexistence in former Czechoslovakia. The selection of expressions and the concept of dictionary entries are based precisely on this specific linguistic and historical situation and reflect the current state, where Slovak and especially Czech speakers born after the establishment of the independent republics are losing, or have already lost, the ability of passive bilingual perception. The dictionary is primarily intended for Czech users, which is why the Slovak-Czech part, containing 12,161 dictionary entries, is developed in more detail and includes not only the translation of individual expressions but also some grammatical, stylistic, or idiomatic information. The Czech-Slovak section, with 12,237 entries, focuses mainly on translation. The dictionary also includes a brief overview of Slovak grammar and spelling.
