Description
This Czech-language novel brings turmoil to Ballybucklebo when the much-loved and much-feared Doctor Fingal O’Reilly announces that he is marrying his former student sweetheart. The wedding preparations quickly become complicated, and troubles multiply like clues in a detective story. In the small Irish town, the distinctive doctor and his young assistant Barry Laverty are institutions, dealing with the health problems and other difficulties of the good-natured local residents. They must cope with the unexpected illness of Kinky, the family’s long-serving housekeeper, and the fraudulent schemes of Councillor Bishop. They also need to save little Colin’s beloved ferret from Bishop’s spite, while helping Helen, a modest and gifted young woman without money. In this new instalment of Patrick Taylor’s doctors’ series, the memorable characters experience their own small comedies and tragedies and find joy in life’s immense little miracles. It is a story of humour, understanding and love.
