Description
"Visit the climate spa Džbery pod Skálou, which rises 703 m above sea level, where in a beautiful setting you can find wonderful walks through shady forests and the birds sing praises to the Lord! We recommend the ruins of the Plž castle, from where an astonishing panorama opens up to awestruck eyes. And the pension is so cheap here that the sick not only regain their lost health but also save a lot..." the colorful brochure enticingly urged. The brochure did not mention what the kind reader would soon discover: that with Karel Poláček, the genius of Czech humor, they would visit the hotel U kamenného stolu, meet its summer guests, and laugh to their heart's content. It is here that comical and loving clashes occur between Prague tourists and local characters. Humor cannot be explained; humor must be read: "During this scene, the innkeeper stood like a pillar and his face turned dark. He grumbled like a flying beetle; it was clear that he was dissatisfied with something and would have preferred to see someone far away over seven mountains and seven rivers."
