Mossad: Operation Eichmann is an unusually gripping account of one of the boldest operations of the Israeli secret service – the kidnapping of Adolf Eichmann, a former high-ranking official of the Nazi regime, personally responsible for the extermination of six million Jews, who was hiding in Argentina. The reader, through a detailed description of the entire operation, marvels at how the slightest carelessness or unforeseen detail can thwart the entire operation in an instant. And although we know the final outcome, it is a highly suspenseful game of every hidden step, intensified by the psychology of the mass murderer and his surviving victims. The operation is conducted with perfect self-control by all the "hunters" and especially their leader, Isser Harel (1912–2003), the founder of Mossad and the author of this unusually realistic book. The book rightly received the award from the American Association of Detective Authors, even though it is not fictional – it vividly illustrates the essence of detective tension. The greatest surprise is the behavior of Eichmann himself, a conscientious bureaucrat and a good family man, sentenced to death (ironically in a country that does not recognize the death penalty) seemingly only for his role in the machinery of depersonalized evil.
