Young doctor Barry Laverty is looking forward to his first Christmas in the cozy village of Ballybucklebo, but his joy is dampened by his girlfriend Patricia, who has no intention of coming for the holidays. However, Barry cannot dwell too much on his romantic troubles – he and his older colleague Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly have plenty of work with common illnesses and urgent cases requiring their full attention. Moreover, a big problem arises. A new doctor opens a practice nearby, deceitfully luring patients away, and his quackery begins to threaten the health of trusting villagers.
