Description

The last book published during the lifetime of the poet, translator, and editor Petr Mikeš (1948 – 2016) is his atypical, fragmented memoirs. In it, the author loosely follows the chronology of his own life and creative journey. He focuses more on 'portraying' the personalities who had a fundamental influence on him or were his literary loves and close collaborators. He logically returns to the normalization years when he published in Olomouc with Rostislav Valuška and Eduard Zach, the stimulating samizdat edition Texts of Friends, in which works by Březina, Deml, Zahradníček, Šafařík, and many other Czech and world authors were published. In the memoirs, he also reflects on his extensive translation work dedicated primarily to the poet Pound, but also to the works of his daughter Mary de Rachewiltz and granddaughter Patrizia de Rachewiltz. And he reminisces about the places he loved. Not only his native Moravia, Zlín, Olomouc, and Brno, but also Venice, Rapallo, Pound's Brunnenburg, and England and America, where he stayed for study visits.
