Description
The work of the poet, prose writer, and essayist Jaroslav Durych (1886-1962) is often praised for its linguistic qualities, but it has not yet been interpreted in detail from this perspective. The book The Poetic Language of Jaroslav Durych is an attempt at a more systematic interpretation in this regard. The author analyzes the striking features of Durych's expression, which often seems unusual to contemporary readers: among other things, a word order inspired by Baroque Czech, an archaizing vocabulary, intentional rhythmization of some prose pieces, and their rich intertextual construction. The findings presented may help readers, interpreters, and editors of Durych's texts to achieve a deeper understanding.
