Description
Roger Sherman Loomis believes that the origin of the legend of the Holy Grail is Celtic. He supports his opinion with numerous parallels between the Arthurian legends and Celtic mythological stories, in which he finds many precursors to the motifs of these legends. According to Loomis, the material about the Grail traveled from the Celts to Brittany, where it was further transmitted and developed, eventually being enriched with elements of Christian apocrypha and Catholic theology. Extensive quotations from the analyzed sources allow readers to think independently about many of the author's conclusions. In English-speaking countries, the book is often cited and recommended at universities. The book was translated by Alena Chejnová. American medievalist Roger Sherman Loomis (1887-1966) was a researcher primarily in the field of Arthurian tradition. He served as a professor at Columbia University.
