Description
The secret creates history and constitutes the human soul, claims Věroslav Mertl, a writer, poet, and essayist from České Budějovice, in one of his essays. As he admits, he began writing diary entries at the urging of his father when he was just an eight-year-old boy. However, he is aware of the certain problematic nature and subjectivity of diary notes and observations, but he believes that they also belong to publishable literature and are not always just a private matter. This is confirmed by the success of his book of diary reflections and thoughts, "Kruhy pod očima," which was published in 1995 and included texts from 1954 to 1994. It is loosely followed by the "second book" of "Kruhy pod očima," in which Mertl is a perceptive, sometimes unyielding commentator and critic of external life, but above all a philosophizing and wise person, rejecting the onslaught of postmodern relativism of values and instead returning in the spirit of his depth to Christian faith and morality, to values and certainties that are enduring and self-preserving.
