Description

The texts express the author's relationship with art and his experience of 'how to be with art,' marked by a significant imprint of the artistic and philosophical stance of the 1960s, when he founded and shaped the group Aktual. Knížák's often provocatively impactful opinions, which he rationally argues, touch upon the issues of the relationships between visual art and mathematics, science, music, politics, and everyday life. They also address kitsch and, conversely, the question of the elitism of art. The author also focuses on the general principles of installations of visual art, specifically the Veletržní palác. The book is supplemented by a visual appendix of 'subjectively selected exhibits from the National Gallery.' Milan Knížák (1940), artist, musician, visual theorist. He has organized numerous solo exhibitions and participates in joint exhibitions as well. He has published, among others, Travelogues (1990), Without Reason (1996), I Understand My Birth as a Challenge (1999), Poems 1974-2001 (2001).
