Franz Kafka - Minority Report – Kouba Petr (2010)

The reports collected in this volume examine more than Franz Kafka and his work. They explore the Kafkaesque universe through the problem of minority, understood primarily through the concept developed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in A Thousand Plateaus. Here, the distinction between Majority and Minority is not simply quantitative: the Majority represents a constant, standard model of life to which everyone is expected to conform, while minorities involve deviations from this majoritarian way of living. From the majoritarian perspective, minorities may be objectified and defined by their distance from the dominant model. In themselves, however, they are dynamic processes of escape from that model, positive and creative forces that introduce mutations and variations into standardized social life. Minority, as long as it remains minority, is therefore a becoming-minoritarian that passes beyond the established limits of social existence.
