Description
The final volume of the three-part correspondence of the creators of the Liberated Theatre brings their mutual letters from the grim years of 1969–1980. The publishing house of Jiří Tomáš Akropolis concludes this unique editorial project, the preparation and realization of which were not simple. The collection of letters itself (this beautiful mutual correspondence is in a way a continuation of their former forewords), shedding an extraordinary light on the normalization years in then Czechoslovakia, is this time supplemented by some other documents from Voskovec's estate. Primarily, Voskovec's attempt at an autobiography is published here (sometimes mentioned under the title Shadow of Freedom, under which it was once published in Tigrid's Witness). Editor Ladislav Matějka confronts its text with the official record from the interrogations Voskovec underwent in the years 1950–1951, when he was interned for eleven months on the immigration island of Ellis Island.
