Description
Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling studied the philosophy of art systematically from 1800 onward. His 1807 lecture on the relationship between the visual arts and nature is his final work explicitly devoted to this subject. Addressed to a broader educated public, it does not formulate purely philosophical arguments, but draws on contemporary discussions about the nature of beauty, including those of Winckelmann, Hamann, Goethe and Mengs. At the same time, Schelling seeks to show in what sense nature is alive and productive, how it represents the world of ideas, and how the task of art is to imitate nature. He also examines the specific character of representing ideas in art. The contents are in Czech.
