Description

In his 1803 lectures, F. W. J. Schelling examines the fundamental idea of the university and education. Holistic education, based on the unity of all sciences and ultimately on philosophy, forms the basis of a true and free social life. One of Schelling’s principal ideas is the necessity of construction rather than reconstruction: a scholar and teacher should be able to construct the whole of his science from within himself. This and several other theses from the lectures are further explained by articles from the Critical Journal of Philosophy written during the same period. An important and for some time highly influential aspect of Schelling’s work is the new philosophy of nature he established, a holistic and creative approach that once again unites the sciences. Its relationship to philosophy in general is clarified in an article of the same name. This Czech-language edition also includes the related essays.
