Description
The second part of the third volume of this history of political thought offers a philosophical and historical account of political thinking from the American Revolution to the First World War. It examines the emergence of the modern republic with democratic representation, the origins of modern ideologies and thinkers such as Tocqueville, Nietzsche and Weber, whose work was fully appreciated only in the twentieth century. Separate chapters explore political thought in Germany at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and in Russia and the Czech lands during the nineteenth century.
