Description
This book offers a comprehensive and in many respects original view of Plato’s most extensive work as the most important document of his political thought. Although the dialogue Laws is fundamentally in agreement with the Republic and the Statesman in assigning a central political role to the philosopher-ruler, it formulates more clearly than these better-known works the philosopher’s relationship to the constitution and laws of the city, the empirical preconditions of politics and his fellow citizens. It could thus become not only a model for historical law codes in Plato’s time, but also a starting point for the tradition of proposals for the best form of government from antiquity to the modern era. The contents are in Czech.
